‘Commissioning’ a painting is simply having a painting created to your requirements. If you like my paintings and painting style and there is something particular that you would love to see hanging on your wall (or someone else’s) then please get in touch with me to discuss how, together with you, we can make that a reality.
It’s a relatively straightforward process which I can guide you through prior to committing to any financial outlay and I am happy to work to any size requirements. It does not have to be a Bank Balance Breaking process!
I generally prefer to paint either direct on scene (Plein Air) or to have some emotional involvement in the scene so I do not normally paint specifically from photographs to replicate an image but they may allow me to understand what you require and the emotions that generated your idea.
FAQ
Consultation - Prior to doing anything I will discuss with you the composition, size and subject and cost. I am happy to chat about images you may already have, or even discuss site visits to capture new reference material.
Timeframe - Once everything is agreed your painting should be completed in about two months, to allow for drying time between layers if completed in Oil. Other mediums (Watercolour, Acrylic, Pen and Charcoal) will have a shorter timeframe however all this is dependent on other work I am undertaking. The time frame will be agreed at the time of Commission.
Process - If you do wish to go ahead then I will speak with you to clearly understand what your requirements are and will agree these in writing with you prior to commencing.
Prices - A whole range of factors affect the cost of completing a painting and you can get some idea of my costs by viewing my Gallery / Shop and the relevant prices there. However as with all bespoke items there is a slight premium to the cost due to the additional time and preparation involved. On commission work over €500 I require 25% of the agreed cost at the start, 25% at halfway stage (I’ll provide you with updates to ensure you are happy with it) and the remaining 50% on completion, up to €500 I require 25% at start and remainder on completion.
Framing - Framing costs can vary significantly dependant on the type chosen. I can supply finished paintings unframed allowing you to choose your own to suit your hanging space. I will advise on appropriate framing options during the commissioning process.
